Faculty Development

Training Masters' "Pursuing Instructional Excellence" (PIE) series offers teaching techniques and strategies that can help any instructor, new or veteran, increase his or her effectiveness in the classroom. Various services are available to support the PIE CD-ROM series and to enhance other faculty development objectives in schools.

A Training Masters specialist can deliver a PIE program which is often a request when schools are getting the program started. With a train-the-trainer objective, the specialist will conduct a group session of the school's choice which can be a great PIE kick off. There are several benefits associated with initiating PIE this way.

  • Everyone learns how easy it is to master the technical control of the program.
  • Effective facilitation practices are demonstrated, including the use of the pause button to encourage discussion, ways to relate the content of the program to the particular school's environment, and encouraging the adoption of several new strategies that all instructors agree to begin using.
  • Effective use of support materials in the program Resource Guide is demonstrated.

In addition to the services that support PIE, numerous topics for faculty and staff development are available. Delivery can take the form of in-service workshops, teleconferences, or webinars. Topics are integrated with specific school or company objectives such as retention improvement goals, increasing student attendance strategies, increasing re-entry results, decreasing front-end attrition, sparking student motivation, improving student involvement, strengthening student/staff connections, and more.

Ask yourself these questions:

  • What is the one major thing you would do to improve student outcomes in your school?
  • Do you have targeted early attrition prevention strategies in place?
  • Do you have an SES (Success for Every Student) program in place?
  • Does your faculty embrace the primary role they have in the overall school's success?
  • Are you pleased with the faculty's level of preparation for teaching?
  • Is every class a dynamic learning experience for students?

Training Masters is prepared to assist you with these topics and more. In addition, the Training Masters website and forum have various materials and other resources that support faculty development programs.
